Vehicular traffic has become a perpetual menace for the developed and developing nations. Elon Musk’s another brain-child; the Boring Company was launched to counteract the perennial disasters of annoying road traffic. Various ideas of diverting heavy traffic to alternative routes were conceived. Though they sound funny and unrealistic, flying cars can definitely be a worthwhile pursuit to solve this problem, if made possible. For now, a realistic approach is to make tunnels a more widely used form of travel to ease out the traffic congestions anywhere.
Elon Musk’s own painful experiences with LA traffic were instrumental in coming up with the idea of alternative routes for travel. Boring Company hence conceived the thought of digging tunnels faster than before and at a real cost. This plan shall make the travel in highly populated cities like New York, Washington D.C. less complicated and the travel time also can come down to less than 30 minutes. Along with Boring Company, SpaceX joined hands to make this venture a reality.
Following are the current Projects of the Boring Company:
Test Tunnel – Hawthorne, CA
The initial Test Tunnel, located in Hawthorne, CA, is being used for the R & D of The Boring Company’s tunneling and public transportation systems. The cost of the test tunnel is $10M. Entry to the tunnel is restricted due to heavy demand from various quarters.
Dugout Loop – Los Angeles, CA
The Boring Company planned to build Dugout Loop, zero-emissions, high-speed, underground public transportation system from the Los Feliz, East Hollywood, to Dodger Stadium in the City of Los Angeles.
The reason for starting Dugout Loop is to ease out traffic in Los Angeles by providing a hygienic and efficient public transportation choice to Dodger Stadium.
Chicago Express Loop
The Chicago Infrastructure Trust (CIT) selected the Boring Company, on behalf of the City of Chicago, to initiate elite negotiations to design, build, fund, work and sustain an Express service for O’Hare. The Chicago Express Loop shall deliver quick and appropriate transportation between O’Hare Airport (Terminals 1-3) and Block 37 in downtown Chicago.
The Boring Company intends to lessen soul-destroying traffic by building benign, inexpensive, and environmentally-friendly public transportation systems. The Chicago Express Loop will run between O’Hare Airport and Block 37 in downtown Chicago. Loop is a high-speed underground public transportation system in which passengers are transported on autonomous electric skates traveling at 125-150 miles per hour.
