Techniques by Corporate America to keep workers near poverty line
Here are some of the major techniques being used by large corporations in the last 10 years to make sure low wages are given to workers:
- In the late 90s and early 2000s, most corporations first removed any job security and pension plans
- Some companies started offshoring work to other countries
But now they have used new techniques to give low wages to workers :
- Employees are first terminated on some excuse
- Many of these are brought back as consultants after a few months
- These hourly workers have no benefits like medical and are paid on hourly basis
- Some companies cut hourly wages by 10 to 20% on some excuse like company not doing well
- Other times, workers are forced to take 2 to 3 weeks of unpaid vacation (furlough)
- Some companies transfer employees to another state and reduce wages by up to 20 %, saying another state has lower cost of living
Such companies need to be identified, named and shamed !
