We all know that a quick nap in the afternoon is known as Siesta. Human beings stay awake for close to 16 hours a day and sleep for at least 8 hours a day to stay healthy and active. The sleep patterns vary for everyone based on the choices of their professional and personal lives. Based on the cultural and economic backdrops, some can afford longer hours of sleep while some cannot afford to sleep for more than 5 to 6 hours a day.

Regardless of the fact where we dwell and what we do, the universal truth is human beings cannot survive if they stay awake for more than 48 hours at a stretch and those who have irregular sleep patterns are prone to sleeping disorders like insomnia, cardiac problems, and a steep fall in their longevity. Now, let us understand the importance of Siesta.

Elderly and infants sleep for longer hours than the humans in other age groups as their biological clocks function in a way that their bodies need more than 10 hours of sleep in multiple iterations every day. As per the latest statistics, Americans are sleep deprived heavily for some known and unknown reasons. This alarming finding is due to lifestyle changes across the nation, where people don’t have the time to take a short nap or siesta. But it is ideal to understand the benefits of a Siesta today. Emergency napping is done when you are extremely exhausted due to some physically tiresome tasks and forced to slow down and sleep in order to control your fatigue, strain, and stress. This can help you to stay safe from falling seriously ill due to fatigue.

Habitual napping is practiced when a person takes a nap every day as per a schedule. Children y fall asleep at about the same time each afternoon or an adult might take a short nap after lunch each day. These are useful patterns of Siesta.

Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Napoleon, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, and George W. Bush were known to taken afternoon naps during their prime years. Nonetheless, in order to have a better Work-life balance and improved productivity along with controlled blood sugar and balanced sugar levels, Siesta is an inevitable option.

It is time we invest in our health instead of going bankrupt by visiting hospitals for ridiculous health issues which can be averted with some wisdom and foresightedness. Let us all start valuing short term afternoon naps and stay healthy forever.
