Building Tires from Food Waste

A new material made from food waste could replace some of the petroleum used in tyre manufacturing. The material made from eggshells and tomato skins is meant to replace carbon black, filler that makes rubber more durable. To create the greener filler, the team dried the shells and skins and then ground them into a powder that was added to the rubber, adding strength without impacting flexibility.
