Athelas Home Blood Testing Device

The Athelas home testing device promise to let users test their blood at home for a variety of diseases. The Athelas startup was originally founded by seventeen-year-old Tanay Tandon to develop a blood test for malaria. That concept evolved over three years into the Athelas, which is able to test for a number of diseases by determining the white blood cell count in a small blood sample. The Athelas device was created with help from oncologists and relies on computer imaging to interpret the data, delivering the results to a paired smartphone in just one minute. Besides monitoring for cancer, the Athelas device can also indicate whether an infection is viral or bacterial, and perhaps even predict an imminent cardiac arrest.
