4 times when Google Maps failed me
Previously, Americans could travel all across the US with just paper based maps. However, in the last 10 years, we have become dependent on Google Maps, as it is available on our phones and has become a matured dependable product.
However, the product still has a few issues. Here are the 4 times it has failed me:
- In a snow storm, it does not know which way to recommend as it suggests many inner roads which are cleaned later and you can get stuck in snow or your speed gets extremely slow due to snow. It needs to suggest those roads where snow is cleaned first.
- When Police blocks certain roads, Google Maps is not aware many times. During the last snow storm on 15th Nov, these first 2 points were obvious to people in Northeast.
- Though rarely, it has happened that a street is one way and google maps is not aware.
- One of the hilarious incidents was when I was looking for a Home Depot and used google maps to search for it, and it made me drive for around 20 minutes and then I reached a spot where a new Home Depot was under construction ! This happened around 5 years back so I hope this issue is fixed now.
